Within the Belize Reserve there are a number of village communities, each of which is separated naturally by areas of forest, small hills or streams. Within each village individual freehold land plots are available, about a quarter of an acre in size. A variety of different house designs can be built on the plots, with the houses being designed to fit in with the surrounding flora and fauna, and the emphasis is on light and nature; with large floor to ceiling windows; open plan living areas and hardwood decking providing outside lounge areas and extended bedrooms. If there are trees growing on a plot, the decking will be built around it, so as to protect the environment whilst at the same time ensuring that the houses and villages do not all look the same.
